when u r washing ur belli pathres use the steel gunju. but dont use all ur force for ujjing, u might end up with visible marks on the belli patre, i tried this for my deepas, now my deepas look cleaner than ever...
I used to use steel gunju but as you said, it tends to leave fine line scratches. I now use my washing soda/salt/warm water/aluminum foil trick in a steel sink. It requires no scrubbing except for greasy parts and does the job in seconds! I thought I had share that tip already....

One more tip for belli patre that someone suggested( I am yet to try it out) is using toothbrush instead of dish washing liquid!
